31/12 – What To Watch For + Week Recap

THE WEEK THAT WAS:

Line Of The Week: Westbrook  – 45/11/11 (24/12 vs. Boston)
(Honourable mention: John Wall 36/11/9)

Longest Active Winning Streak: Pelicans & Spurs with 3 in a row.
Longest Active Losing Streak: Pacers, Sixers and Clippers with 4 in a row.

East Playoff Bubble: The East is tough this season! Celtics are 3rd in the East with 19 wins and Orlando 12th with 15 wins. The Wizards are 7-3 in their last 10 and are only one win away from 8th seed.

West Playoff Bubble: The Kings and Nuggets are tied for 8th (14-18), after the Blazers have gone 2-8 in their last ten and are now 1 game behind.

Tank Watch: Philly are now 3-7 in their last 10. They are in desperate need of a PG (ideally one that fits with Simmons) and will have options in the 2017 Draft.

Recap: This week was set up for one game. The Christmas day rematch, with the Cavs hosting the Warriors. And like the infamous 3-1 comeback in last season’s finals, the Cavs managed to claw back a 14 point deficit to defeat the Dubs with a Kyrie turnaround fadeaway, (check it out below if you haven’t had internet for the past week)

The Dubs sets Durant up for a game winner, but he tripped (or was shoved?) This game had it all, from Green’s early technical showing that this was just more than a regular home and away season game to Old Man RJeff stuffing it in twice!

One point to note, Curry is now shooting a career low of 40% from deep after going 2-7 on Christmas day.

31/10/10 is Russell Westbrook’s current averages. This week alone Russ has notched up trip dubs including a monster game against the Celtics that led to a tough road win at the TD Garden. Before Westbrook had a stinker yesterday against the Grizz, OKC had won 4 in a row.

There were some amazing game winners from Randy Foye and Jimmy Butler. Butler’s was even more impressive after he dropped 40 points and saved the Bulls from falling from the a playoff seed.

Finally George Karl must really really want to sell books. In his latest self promoting rant he was quoted:

“I was watching the Portland Trail Blazers play, and I was trying to figure out, ‘What the hell is wrong with this team?’” Karl said. “My conclusion is that Damian Lillard is getting too much attention.”He continued: “Who controls the team? The coach and the point guard. And that team is not working. I think their coach, Terry Stotts, is a great coach. So I’m going to say the problem is Lillard. They were a together, connected, committed team last year. This year they’re not. What changed?”

Stotts was having none of it and went for Karl’s throat…

#JerseyBet Competition: Anthony Davis had been carrying the Pels whilst running mates Jrue Holiday and Tyreke Evans were absent. He had some amazing games, but now with a full and healthy squad they are winning games. Davis is healthy and ballin’ and as a result we added him to our early prediction All-NBA second team. Porzingis has had an intriguing sophomore year, now playing more at the 5, the big Lithuanian has been adapting his game. But he can shoot, he is BIG, long and quick. He will be around for a long time, and we may very quickly find him a top 15 player in the league.

Give us your Points, Rebounds, Blocks for AD OR Zinger and if you guess right, you win a jersey of your choice… as long as I don’t get it right too!

Davis: 28 PTS, 14 REB, 4 BLKS.
Porzingis: 19 PTS, 8 REB, 3 BLKS.

4 POINTS:

  • Clippers @ Rockets- The Clippers are hurting without Blake, having lost 4 in a row. The Rockets are on a tear, led by Harden (a reason why he made it to our early prediction First All-NBA team). They are now 3rd in the West and show no signs of stopping.
  • Bucks @ Wolves – Speaking of tears, the Alphabet continues his stellar play, supported by Jabari Parker who is coming off a 31/9/7 game against the Wizards. The Wolves however stink. Even being led by KAT, their youth, inexperience and surprisingly bad defence has meant they have offered little resistance this season.
  • Knicks @ Pelicans – PORZINGIS VS. DAVIS. Big men that can shoot and move. What else is there to talk about? Take a crack their lines and make this game even more worth watching.
  • Bulls @ Pacers – This game will likely be well into the 2nd half, when you are reading this but it’s an important one. Both teams are hanging around the 8th seed of the East. Holding the tie breaker may mean the difference between playoffs and no playoffs.
