THE WEEK THAT WAS:
Line Of The Week: James Harden’s 40/15/10 takes the cake this week
Longest Active Winning Streak: Hawks 7 in a row
Longest Active Losing Streak: Nets 8 in a row
East Playoff Bubble: The Hornets (20-19) and Wizards (19-19) are holding onto the last 2 playoff spots. The Bulls (19-21), Knicks (18-22) and Pistons (18-23) are there abouts.
West Playoff Bubble: The Blazers (18-23) have snuck back into 8th. The Kings (16-22), Nuggets (15-23) and Pelicans (16-24) are still in the hunt.
Tank Watch: The Heat are 1-9 over their past 10 games. I’m not sure if they’re tanking, or just not very good.
Recap: Another NBA week – more stomper performances. James Harden pushed further for MVP honours with a couple of monster games. Familiar suspects highlighted the rest of the day’s play (Hi Jokic!).
Sat – Steph Curry – 40/4/6
Sun – Jimmy Butler – 42/10/5 and the clutch 3
Mon – James Harden – 40/10/11 (10 TO’s…)
Tues – Anthony Davis – 40/18/2
Wed – DeMar DeRozan – 41/13
Thu – Isaiah Thomas – 38/6/5 with 20 in the 4th!
Fri – Nikola Jokic – 22/10/7
Side Note: How crazy was the Derrick Rose situation this week!? For those uninitiated, Rose was an unexplained absence from the Knicks lineup vs New Orleans just 40 minutes prior to tip off – a game they lost – as team officials had no idea where he was. Turns out he fled to Chicago due to a family issue.
Rose has been fined $200,000 and since returned to the team. There was talk of Rose retiring…and now talk of him wanting a max contract. Just a bizarre week from a fallen star.
Will we ever see this guy again?
Hornets (20-19) @ 76ers (11-25)
Nets (8-30) @ Raptors (25-13)
Heat (11-29) @ Bucks (19-18)
Grizzlies (24-17) @ Rockets (31-10)
Thunder (24-16) @ Timberwolves (13-26)
Celtics (24-15) @ Hawks (22-16)
Magic (16-24) @ Blazers (18-23)
Cavaliers (28-10) @ Kings (16-22)
Pistons (18-23) @ Jazz (24-16)
#JerseyBet Competition: Horford and Millsap! The former starting frontcourt of the Atlanta Hawks are going head to head today – pick ONE of Millsap or Horford’s points, rebounds, assists and block stat lines right and win an NBA jersey of your choice. The catch is if I get either of them right, I win! My guesses are below:
Paul Millsap: 17 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 block
Al Horford: 14 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocks
- Celtics @ Hawks – The return of the prodigal son. The boo birds may be out in force for Al Horford, who returns to ATL to take on his former Hawks – winners of their past 7 in a row. Huge game in the context of eastern contenders.
- Hornets @ 76ers – The Process is becoming clearer, and the Sixers are winning some games (who knew). After TJ McConnell’s heroics, the 76ers are 5-5 over their past 10 and have been playing their best ball in a couple years. Can Kemba and the Hornets further lock up a playoff spot? Or will the 76ers keep the good times rolling?
- Cavaliers @ Kings – The Cavs have been in a bit of a rut following their acquisition of Kyle Korver. The up and down Kings may be the perfect remedy for them – although Boogie will cause some headaches for an overmatched Cavs frontline.
- Grizzlies @ Rockets – A really interesting match of contrasting styles. The Rockets are the NBA’s darlings, with Harden dominating in career best form. The Grizzlies are the underrated slow paced crew that somehow gets the job done – it’s Pringles vs Mr Potatohead, who gets the dub?
